The organisers for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games have appointed five new members to its Legacy and Benefits (LAB) Committee.
The Committee is formed by a cross-partner group set up to ensure that Birmingham, the West Midlands and the wider country maximises the benefits of hosting the Games.
The new additions, selected at the end of a recruitment process, include Nicola Ibbetson, CCO, Aston Villa and a board member for the FA Women’s Super League; Fleur Sexton, a Deputy Lieutenant for the West Midlands; Casey Bailey, a mentor and football coach for young people; Anisa Morridadi, Founder and CEO of arts organisation Beatfreeks, and Sarah Rennie, a transport sector specialist.
The five new additions will join a group comprised of representatives from a range of organisations, including the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Birmingham City Council, the West Midlands Combined Authority, Coventry City Council, and the Commonwealth Games Federation.
The LAB committee is chaired by John Crabtree, who also chairs the Birmingham 2022 Board.
Crabtree said: “We are delighted to confirm our new recruits and we’re pleased to have added five people that bring very different knowledge and experience but all share a passion for ensuring that the city of Birmingham and the West Midlands maximises the opportunities that hosting a globally significant event like the Commonwealth Games brings.
“I’ve been very impressed with the enthusiasm that they have all already demonstrated, and we feel lucky that we have been able to attract such talented individuals. I’d like to thank everyone who applied to be part of the committee. It was extremely difficult to choose only five new members and we are very grateful that so many people expressed an interest in getting involved.”
This group is collectively tasked with establishing a legacy strategy for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and overseeing the delivery of a comprehensive programme of benefits for the city and region linked to the Games.
